PROGRAM: Lucca retains the charm of a small and ancient Italian city-state. His shrewd policy has allowed him over the centuries to remain free and independent. Remained therefore miraculously foreign to the destruction of the wars, it still maintains today one of the most important artistic heritage of Tuscany. The imposing tree-lined Renaissance walls that completely surround it, the medieval streets flanked by towers and elegant shops, the enchanting Romanesque Churches, alternate with luminous squares, creating new and unsuspected prospects in the eyes of the visitor. Free of traffic, the historic center of Lucca offers visitors the chance to immerse themselves in a rare ancient atmosphere that allows them to reclaim a feeling of time and space not granted by the modern cities of our day. You can see, Piazza Napoleone, Piazza San Michele in Foro, the Amphitheater Square, the Church of San Frediano, the Torre del Guinigi and then finish the tour in Piazza Duomo where you can independently visit the Cathedral of San Martino, a fundamental destination for medieval pilgrims that from here passed to venerate the image of the “Holy Face” of Christ, still today symbol of the city. Inside the sacristy, possibility to admire the famous sarcophagus of Ilaria del Carretto, by Jacopo della Quercia (admission fee € 3.00 per person)
